RUMAH KACHA BY THE KAPITS
Looking for a great lunch spot in Penang? I got you covered! Tucked in the middle of Hin Bus Depot, Georgetown Penang, Rumah Kacha offers a cozy environment to sit down and unwind yourself after a hectic day at work. You may find it quite a hassle to park around Hin Bus Depot especially during lunch hour, because their reserved parking space is inexplicably small. However, I can assure you, your sweat will be worth it!
Rumah Kacha was launched not long time ago, which
was on March 2019 and the wooden-glasshouse was run by The Kapit’s cafe
operator from USM Penang. The truth is, I have been to Hin Bus Depot for
countless of times before, for their Sunday Pop-up Market, workshops, and not
to forget their stunning mural paintings and art exhibitions from time to time.
It was definitely the place for you to craft out your arts and enjoy the fun. I
was tagging my friends on a Friday, to get some fresh air after a long frantic
week. My friends who came to visit me from Kedah suggested me this cafe for our
quick lunch and I was quite reluctant before I get there.
Upon arrival, we were greeted well by their friendly
team and coming to our surprises, we were the first customer of the day.
Therefore, we managed to snatch a place with a nice view. People might think, a
glasshouse in Malaysia’s hot weather will fail terribly but think again after
you get here. The glasshouse was actually covered with natural shades and the
atmosphere needs no further introduction, the interior of this cafe was far
from what I have imagined. Very aesthetically pleasing, I must say. Great
ambience and homely feel. You should not worry on the warm weather, as the cafe
is equipped with air conditioner.
Rumah Kacha offers various kind of eatery but the
main focus were on pasta and burger dishes. The cafe had received many positive
responses from the public for their home-made pasta serving which come with a
local Malaysian twist. Since it was our first time visiting, the team were very
helpful to get us on their best seller menu for lunch. Lunch and dinner came in
combo meals with a price range of RM20-RM22, comes with one chosen dish, a complementary drink and a side of dessert. Do
not worry if you don’t feel like combo, because they have their food on ala
Carte too with a slightly higher price. Most of their meals are wallet-friendly price tags; a bonus for customers. We decided
to jump on their Chicken Rendang Pasta, Masak Lemak Cili Api with Prawns Pasta
under their combo deals to satisfy our typical Malaysian tongue and one
Carbonara with Baked Chicken Pasta.
We did not wait long to receive our orders and the
food surpass our expectations. Their homecooked-local inspired meals will
definitely reminds you of home. Chicken Rendang Pasta slows the world down,
taking on all the intense tropical aromatics of coconuts, chiles and spice.
Along the way, the coconut milk deepens into the pasta with hints of a nutty,
buttery sweetness. Rendang can be sweet for some reason but this pasta is not
overly sweet, it was well-balanced with its spiciness and depth flavor between
the coconut and protein.
Meanwhile, the Masak Lemak Cili Api with Prawns
Pasta take after a stronger Malaysian flavors but did not disappoint. The
creamy factors were our main concerned, we thought that we would manifest any
displeasure halfway through the meal. Surprisingly, the creamy curry was
incredibly flavorful and the spicy combination of turmeric, coconut milk, various
other herbs and spices were the real deal. The pasta were cooked in al-dente,
the texture is firm and perfect for you to chew. It was tons of imagination and
attention to details on a wholesome plate, we really enjoyed it! However,
Carbonara with Baked Chicken Pasta was disappointingly average. The sauce of
carbonara was lack of taste. The chicken was expertly marinated well but the flavor
of whole portion of pasta needed a lot of fix and mix.
After we finished our meals, the staffs took over
our plates and served us a banana cake sliced topped with vanilla ice-cream for
desserts. Who would have thought a banana cake will blend well with a vanilla
ice cream? Me neither! It was a remarkable dessert, one that you could
replicate at home too.
Our visit to Rumah Kacha was indeed a joyful one. Never worry on their services, the friendly team were always ready to hear on your thoughts and experiences upon your payments made. Besides their impressive and nature-elements environment, their appetizing foods were awesome! Should you visit? A big YES! Don’t leave without trying on their signature home-made Malaysian twist pasta with your friends or families!
